His Story
John Gibson was a son of Riceboro, in Liberty County, Georgia. He joined the United States Marine Corps and deployed to Vietnam in the fall of 1967, serving as a rifleman with the 7th Marines of the 1st Marine Division. On February 7, 1968 — in the opening days of the Tet Offensive — he was killed in action in Quang Nam Province. He was 21 years old. His name is etched on Panel 37E, Line 82 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
